Meteor Passing by Earth Causes Shaking in Buildings Observed in Vermont, USA

A meteor traveling at over 65,000 km/h was spotted in the skies above Vermont, USA, and Canada on Sunday. According to CNN, NASA's meteor observation service reported that more than 100 people saw the meteor around 5:38 PM local time.

“There was no sound, but it was impressive to see it. I will never forget that sight,” said a resident from South Burlington, Vermont, in an interview with the channel.

Nasa's data indicates that the celestial body was likely a fragment of a meteoroid; however, it caused significant shaking and vibrations that were also noted by witnesses.

“The celestial body suddenly fragmented, resulting in a pressure wave that led to the shaking of buildings. Such pressure waves can also reach the ground, prompting seismic instruments to record tremors in the Earth’s crust,” the space agency commented.

According to NASA estimates, the meteor weighed about 5 kg and had a diameter of 6 inches.
