Menendez Launches Petition in Senate for Biden to Recognize Armenian Genocide
The Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Bob Menendez, has initiated a bipartisan petition in the Senate calling on President Joe Biden to follow Congress's example in fully and officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide. This was reported by the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
The Senate letter cites Biden's statement made in April 2020 on the remembrance day of the Armenian Genocide victims, where he assured that he would "support the passage of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide," noting that Congress has already clarified its stance, adding, "it is time to do this in the executive branch as well." The letter concludes with a powerful call for truth.
"Both party administrations have remained silent regarding the truth of the Armenian Genocide. We urge you to break this pattern and officially recognize that the Armenian Genocide was genocide," the letter states.
ANCA Executive Director Aram Hambargian emphasized that Armenian Americans and all supporters are joining Senator Menendez in urging senators to sign the letter directed to President Biden.
