Grenade Explosion and Attempted Murder in Malishka Village
On March 8, an attempted murder incident occurred in the Vayots Dzor region. Around 13:45, the Eghegnadzor Medical Center alerted the police department that a citizen was being transported with injuries from a grenade explosion.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the victim was identified as 62-year-old Melik Nazaryan, a resident of Malishka village, who was taken to the hospital from the backyard of his house on 20th Street in Malishka.
According to G. Shamshyan's reports, around 13:00, M. Nazaryan attempted to secure a trailer parked in his yard to his VAZ 2107 model vehicle for agricultural work and firewood collection, at which point a grenade, secured with a metal wire at the attachment point of the trailer, fell and exploded. As a result of the explosion, he sustained multiple shrapnel injuries to his chest and limbs.
Police and investigators visited the victim's residence and, during the examination of the scene, found a grenade ring, a pipe (tubes), metal shrapnel, metal fragments from the trailer wheel, grenade pins, and 2 kg of soil from the explosion site, as well as blood-like traces in front of the house.
Based on the findings, senior investigator A. Harutyunyan initiated a criminal case under Article 34-104, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (attempted murder). The police and the investigative department are conducting necessary operational-search and investigative joint actions to clarify the circumstances of the incident and to solve the crime.
