Gas Leak for Several Hours Due to Accident Involving Truck Carrying 20 Tons of Liquid Gas
On March 8, a major traffic accident occurred in the Ararat region. Around 19:10, a 56-year-old Iranian citizen, Alireza Hossein Salahi, lost control of his Scania truck with a trailer on the 300 km segment of the Meghri-Yerevan highway, in the administrative area of Lanjarr village, for reasons yet unknown. The vehicle veered off the roadway and rolled approximately 80 meters down a ravine.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the driver was rescued from the ravine by citizens who were the first to respond, followed by the rapid arrival of the Emergency Situations Ministry's rescue team from Ararat. Initially, he received first aid on-site from medical personnel of the Ararat Medical Center before being transported to the hospital.
Throughout the night, the duty group of the Ararat Police Department, along with juvenile affairs department officers led by Chief Khachatryan, conducted services at the scene. The truck's trailer was equipped with a cistern containing approximately 20 tons of liquid gas, leading to a gas leak that lasted several hours. Road police and rescuers remained on site to monitor the situation throughout the night.
