The Entire Region is Terrified, Russian Peacekeepers Came to the Azatamut Community and Conducted Measurements

“Two or three days ago, we saw how Russian peacekeepers, probably 300-400 soldiers, came to Azatamut and were conducting measurements. The entire region is terrified; everyone talks under the walls here and there about how Tavush is expecting what happened in Syunik,” said a resident of the Azatamut community in Tavush province in an interview with Factinfo. The resident, who requested anonymity, is concerned that both the governor and mayor have already denied all this and do not want to speak out about the truth.

When asked whether Azerbaijani soldiers were also present with the Russian peacekeepers, the Azatamut resident neither confirmed nor denied: “We were standing at a distance watching how Russian peacekeepers were studying the area; they were moving back and forth, conducting some measurements. We did not get close enough to know what they were discussing or who else was with them, but the fact that they came in vehicles, there was a convoy, and several hundred people were studying the area and conducting measurements, we all saw that,” said the resident, adding that after so much, how can one not understand what is happening or what may await us?

Regarding the question, Factinfo today also spoke with the acting head of the Azatamut community, Arthur Beginyan, who denied all rumors regarding this topic. “All of that is false; no Russian peacekeepers or Azerbaijanis came to Azatamut. I deny these rumors and do not understand who and for what purposes is spreading such news to intimidate the people living here,” the mayor stated. The governor also assured that no measurements had been made. However, neither the governor nor the acting community leader explained why Russian border guards went to the area of Azatamut.
