Now They Have Decided to Dismantle the Judicial System Again: The "Inadequate" of the Supreme Judicial Council President
The parliamentary majority yesterday failed to elect candidates for the position of judge at the Court of Cassation. The Supreme Judicial Council had nominated Samvel Grigoryan, Armen Haykyants, and Arsen Mkrtchyan. The president of the Syunik regional court, Samvel Grigoryan, had submitted a letter of withdrawal, and the MPs had to make a choice between the other two candidates.
However, over the past two days, the My Step faction discussed not the candidates but the issue presented by the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Ruben Vardazaryan. The leader of the My Step faction, Lilit Makunts, announced that they would not elect any of the proposed candidates.
“With this step, the My Step faction is expressing a position not towards the candidates, whom we regard with great respect, but as a stance towards the activities and statements of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council,” she said.
The ruling faction did not participate in the election. It is at least ridiculous when the government, which speaks of reforming the judicial authority, relieving the burden on courts, and judicial independence, does not enrich the composition of the Court of Cassation with the "inadequate" of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council. This disastrous approach by these authorities to dismantling state institutions has new manifestations.
