Will Edmond Marukyan Insist on the Demand Regarding the Chief of Staff During His Meeting with Pashinyan? - 'Hraparak'
Leader of the LHK Edmond Marukyan will meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today at his invitation to discuss the issue of early elections. The day before, Marukyan suggested that Pashinyan should calmly allow the military personnel demanding his resignation to withdraw and rescind the proposal to dismiss Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan, while restoring Deputy Chief of Staff Tiran Khachatryan to his position. Only under these conditions will they sign a memorandum stating that Marukyan will not nominate himself after Pashinyan's resignation. Is he going to the meeting on such terms, or has he abandoned his demands?
“Yesterday I announced that I am ready for numerous compromises. I am going to this meeting, and I will inform you what happens during the meeting. You can ask Nikol Pashinyan what he plans to do at this meeting. Let him also say whether he is going to only state his conditions or if he is also ready to listen to and accept the opposition's conditions,” Marukyan evaded a direct answer.
Although LHK members insist that they 'will not back down' if Pashinyan does not withdraw his order to dismiss the Chief of Staff, they will not sign a memorandum.
