Tragic Accident in Kotayk Region Claims Life of Vicar Tser Kuregh
On March 1, a tragic car accident occurred in the Kotayk region due to icy road conditions. Around 08:30 AM, an Opel Zafira vehicle veered off the road at the 30 km mark of the Yerevan-Sevan highway, crashing into concrete barriers and rolling over several times before landing in a gorge.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, one person died at the scene, while another was transported to the 'Charentsavan' medical center. Emergency services from the Kotayk regional rescue department arrived with a firefighting unit and transported the deceased approximately 1 km to the waiting ambulance of Charentsavan's medical center.
Officers from the second company of the traffic police's third battalion, led by battalion commander Arsen Mardoyan, deputy commander Hayk Davtyan, and squad commander Artur Petrosyan, were also present at the scene.
Information about the accident was relayed to the Kotayk regional investigation department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia by the head of the 1-77 operational command center, Karen Gyulumyan, prompting the dispatch of an investigative team led by the head of the department.
Authorities are currently working to identify the driver, the deceased, and the injured party. Reports indicate that the deceased was Tser Kuregh, the vicar of Jruvj, and it is suggested that the icy conditions were a significant contributing factor to the crash. Maintenance teams responsible for the road reportedly did not take necessary actions to clear the ice.
