Pentagon Strikes Groups at Syria-Iraq Border

The Pentagon has confirmed that American forces conducted strikes in Syria. The targets were Iranian-backed groups located near the border with Iraq. The attack resulted in the destruction of several buildings and casualties, according to Reuters.

According to the U.S. side, the strike was a retaliatory measure against attacks on U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq. “With this action, President Biden is sending a clear message that he will defend U.S. and coalition troops,” stated a Pentagon spokesperson.

The strikes against border regions in Syria have been labeled as “American aggression.” FOX News has also noted that White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, under President Joe Biden's Democratic administration, had previously criticized former Republican President Donald Trump for similar actions.

After the airstrikes in 2017, Psaki questioned the legality of such attacks on Twitter and emphasized that Syria is a sovereign nation, even if President Bashar al-Assad is a “brutal dictator.”
