Fly Armenia Airways Clarifies How Its Leased Aircraft Ended Up in Iran

Fly Armenia Airways has clarified how its leased B737-300 aircraft (Armenian registration EK-FAA) ended up in Iran. Notably, since February 22, reports have circulated in the media suggesting that the Boeing 737 aircraft was hijacked. The Armenian Civil Aviation Committee has denied these reports, yet discussions continue.

The airline's statement indicated that technical work was being conducted on the aircraft in Tallinn, Estonia, and between February 12 and 22, it was scheduled to fly to Ukraine's Hostomel Airport for further technical maintenance. On February 20, the aircraft took off and made an emergency landing for unspecified reasons.

Currently, an investigation is being conducted by Fly Armenia Airways. The airline will provide additional information regarding the incident later.

It is worth recalling that former Prime Minister's advisor Hakob Chagharyan wrote on his Facebook page that on February 21, the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee received a telegram from the General Administration of Civil Aviation of the United Arab Emirates regarding the hijacking of the Boeing 737 aircraft with Armenian registration EK-FAA. Chagharyan noted that the aircraft had taken off from Tallinn, Estonia, and was scheduled to land in Yerevan. However, instead, it was decided during the flight to head to the Emirates for technical servicing. It subsequently made an emergency landing in Tehran due to 'technical malfunction.'
