Why Are Azerbaijanis Traveling via the Martakert Road? Explanation from the Spokesperson of the Artsakh President
The movement of Azerbaijani convoys along the Martakert-Vardenis segment of the road under the control of Artsakh, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers, began in the days following the ceasefire of November 9. This was stated by Lusine Avanesyan, the spokesperson for the President of the Republic of Artsakh, in an interview with Armenpress, commenting on reports circulating in the media that Azerbaijani vehicles have been traveling for about 15-20 days along the approximately 45-50 km stretch of road under Armenian control, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers.
"This road starts from Mataghis, passes through the Drmbon-Getavan segment, and reaches Karvachar. As early as January of this year, the residents of Drmbon had blocked this section of the road for Azerbaijani convoys, demanding that it also be made accessible to them for the relatively shorter route to Vardenis. Since the confirmation of the ceasefire established in November of last year, according to the provisions of the announcement, Azerbaijani vehicles have also been moving along this road, as well as along the Red Market-Shosh-Shushi and Shushi-Berdzor road segments, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers," explained Lusine Avanesyan, adding that the only difference is that the movement of Azerbaijani convoys has intensified recently, which is attributed to the transportation of construction loads.
