Gagik Jhangiryan Has Begun His Work: Pashinyan Said, 'This Is Your First Test'

The newly elected member of the Supreme Judicial Council, Gagik Jhangiryan, has started the process of taking control of the judicial authority. He is actively engaging with first-instance judges and the newly elected President of the Court of Cassation, Lilit Tadevosyan.

Jhangiryan has already visited the newly elected head of the Court of Cassation three times, discussing issues related to coordinating the work of judges on certain cases and providing them with instructions. He has also met several times with the Prime Minister's legal assistant, Anna Vardanyan. This was confirmed to us by judge Karine Petrosyan, who has filed a request with the Supreme Judicial Council to terminate Jhangiryan's powers.

Moreover, Jhangiryan has not been passive with recent arrest warrants. According to some information, the Prime Minister told him, 'This is your first test; let’s see how you overcome it.' The results seem to be 'not bad'—with the efforts of two people, Jhangiryan and the President of the Yerevan Court, Arthur Mkrtchyan, arrests were made of two out of four or five individuals. It is noteworthy that Mkrtchyan was the prosecutor for Lori from 2000 to 2006 and closely associated with Arman Abazyan from Vanadzor, which may explain the interest in issuing arrests in the
