Who Does Serzh Sargsyan See as Prime Minister? He Has a New Candidate
Serzh Sargsyan, the leader of the Republican Party of Armenia, apparently has different political plans and a different logic for his roadmap to regime change. People close to Sargsyan and within his family environment have informed the newspaper "Zhoghovurd" that Sargsyan believes former Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan should replace current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, rather than Karen Karapetyan or anyone else.
It is noteworthy that Tigran Sargsyan held the position of Prime Minister of Armenia from 2008 to 2014. In April 2014, he resigned during a meeting of the executive body of the Republican Party, and was succeeded by Hovik Abrahamyan. From 2014 to 2016, he served as Armenia's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the United States, and from 2016 to 2020, he was the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission. Since 2020, he has been the Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the Eurasian Development Bank.
During this time, Serzh Sargsyan has been working to bring Tigran Sargsyan back to Armenia and transfer the Prime Minister’s baton to him. Sargsyan is doing everything possible to return one of his team members to the prime minister's chair, as he has other ambitions. Additionally, opposition leader Vazgen Manukyan, who has been proposed as a candidate for Prime Minister by the opposition, does not align with Sargsyan’s preferences. Furthermore, Sargsyan has been seriously criticizing him internally and does not envision him in the role of Prime Minister.
