Video: School Director Demanded Bribe, New Police Revelation

Based on operational data received at the Erebuni division of the police, measures taken by the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Department and criminal investigators of the Erebuni division have led to the acquisition of factual information. It has been established that the director of a state general education institution in the Erebuni administrative district of Yerevan has, within the framework of his authorities, clearly demonstrated illegal inaction in favor of a person giving a bribe.

Specifically, in violation of established normative acts, he demanded a significant bribe of $300 in August 2020 from the parent of a student, who was a citizen of Armenia and had returned to Armenia from Russia for permanent residence, and who, according to prior arrangements, was to be admitted to the 4th grade of Russian language instruction in 2019. However, he failed to move the student to the 5th grade of Armenian language instruction in 2020.

On February 16, 2021, the director invited the parent who provided the bribe to his office and stated that only $100 of the $300 had been transferred to him, while demanding an additional $200. Two days later, on February 18, he refused to accept the demanded $200, justifying it by claiming that the other parent had already resolved the issue.

During the investigation of the incident at the premises, important documentary evidence was discovered, including a total of $5,300 and 165,000 AMD in unidentified funds, ammunition of various calibers, among other items.

The director has been detained by the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Department, where a criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. The criminal case has been forwarded to the Investigative Committee.
