Exports Decrease: What Is the Reason? The State Revenue Committee Summarizes 2020

Customs revenues in 2020 saw a decline compared to 2019 but remained almost the same as in 2018. This information was revealed today during a press conference by the head of the Customs Statistics and Revenue Accounting Department of the RA State Revenue Committee, Mnatsakan Sharafyan.

According to him, the reason for the decline is the pandemic. “The data available in the customs statistical database indicates that we have a decrease in imports of about 17.5% and a decrease in exports of 7%,” said Sharafyan, adding that these figures are still provisional and under review. The final numerical data will be presented in March.

Interestingly, in 2020, despite the closed borders due to the pandemic, the number of product exporters in Armenia increased according to official statistics. “The number of exporters has definitely increased, while there hasn't been a sharp decline in the number of importers, meaning it has been maintained,” Sharafyan mentioned.

Moreover, he noted that the exported goods are diverse, ranging from knitted products to mineral industry products.
