The Number of Bodies Transferred by Azerbaijan Was Unprecedented: Hunanyan Tadevosyan
On February 16, the incident of Azerbaijan transferring the bodies of Armenian servicemen was not unprecedented, stated Hunanyan Tadevosyan, head of the Information and Public Relations Department of Artsakh’s Emergency Situations Ministry, in an interview with Sputnik Armenia. He noted that similar cases have occurred in the past.
“In the past two months, once 30 bodies were transferred to the Armenian side, and on another occasion, 31 bodies were handed over. There have been instances where the body of one or several servicemen was returned. The unprecedented number was simply 106,” he said.
Tadevosyan also revealed that the names of the 106 victims were previously on the list of missing persons.
It should be reminded that yesterday evening, in the intersection of the communities of Karmir Shuka and Shekher in the Martuni region, Azerbaijan transferred the remains of 106 servicemen who lost their lives during military operations to the Armenian side. All bodies were unrecognizable. It is assumed that the bodies were previously buried and were transferred after exhumation from the Varanda (Fizuli), Hadrut, and Jrakan (Jabrayil) regions.
“This is the second case this month of Azerbaijan transferring the bodies of our men. The day before, one body was handed over from Mataghis, and yesterday 106 were transferred,” Tadevosyan noted.
He also mentioned that the search operations have been suspended today at the request of the Azerbaijani side, citing weather conditions as the reason.
