Snow Falls in Egypt: Current Temperature in Cairo Around 8 Degrees Celsius, Down from 28 Degrees at Beginning of February
Severe weather conditions are affecting eastern Libya and several regions in Egypt. The National Meteorological Center of Libya has released images from the Jabal Akhdar area in the east of the country, showcasing a landscape completely covered in snow. Snow has also fallen in several localities of neighboring provinces, including the major city of El Bayda. Overnight temperatures dropped to freezing.
Weather improvements are expected starting Thursday. The snow has blanketed the city of Sidi Barani, which borders Libya, as well as the coastal city of Alexandria, where several days of rainfall occurred, and the interior of the Sinai Peninsula near St. Catherine's Monastery (tours have been canceled).
Wind gusts in some areas have reached speeds of 75-85 kilometers per hour, with temperatures in elevated regions dropping to minus two degrees. Earlier this week, Egyptian meteorologists had warned of cold currents and suggested that snow could fall even in Cairo. However, only a light rain was recorded in the capital on Tuesday, according to a correspondent from RIA Novosti.
The air temperature in Cairo is currently around eight degrees Celsius, a significant drop from 28 degrees at the beginning of February. In the resort town of Sharm El Sheikh, temperatures have fallen to +17 degrees.
