Another Fatal Accident Occurs in Yerevan, Residents Dub the Street 'Gate to Hell'

On February 15, a fatal accident occurred in Yerevan. Around 20:10, the driver of an unidentified car struck a pedestrian crossing on Arshakunyats Avenue, opposite the well-known 'Lyotny Uchilishcha.' According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan at the scene, the pedestrian was thrown several meters away.

Emergency medical services arrived promptly, and the medical team confirmed the pedestrian's death. The driver fled the scene, leaving the victim helpless.

Residents living nearby expressed their anger, stating, 'How many more victims do we have to endure due to some reckless drivers abusing this now-infamous road? The pedestrian was respectfully using the designated crosswalk, while a driver with a lack of common sense drove over them. We've repeatedly appealed to the traffic police to install speed bumps and speed cameras in this section. After each tragic incident, authorities come, promise to fix the issues, but forget their promises the next day. Now, we request—no, demand—that both speed bumps and a speed camera be installed here if human life has any value to these responsible state agencies. Enough is enough, our patience has run out. If we block the road, you will say we have closed it, but we are refraining from that step, trusting that at least these speed bumps and cameras will be installed to reduce the reckless behavior of some drivers.'

The permission to install speed bumps and a speed camera in this section must be granted by the Yerevan Municipality, yet, for some reason, they have left residents' requests unanswered for years. The police and investigation department are undertaking necessary operational and investigative measures to identify the fleeing driver and their vehicle.
