35-Year-Old Man from Hatzik Village Arrested on Suspicion of Violence Against Police Officers

In the Shirak regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, a number of circumstances have been clarified regarding a criminal case being investigated on the occasion of violence against police officers, including the identity of the person suspected of committing the alleged crime, as reported by the Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

On February 14, 2021, around 21:30, police officers from the Mush Division of the RA Police noticed young people speaking loudly to each other in the area adjacent to a restaurant complex on P. Sevak Street in Gyumri while carrying out their service. They approached the young people, introduced themselves, and asked them to refrain from disturbing public order.

In response to the lawful demands of the police officers, one of the young men started to pull the clothes of the officer performing his official duties, struck him, and also engaged with another officer who intervened in the scuffle.

As a result, a criminal case has been initiated in the Shirak regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia under Article 316, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (use of violence against a representative of authority).

Through investigative measures, it has been established that the young man is a resident of Hatzik village in the Shirak region, born in 1985, who voluntarily presented himself to law enforcement and was arrested under suspicion of committing violence against police officers.

During the pre-investigation phase, necessary investigative and other procedural actions have been carried out. By the decision of the authority conducting the proceedings, the employees of the RA Police have been recognized as victims.

Measures are being undertaken to ensure comprehensive, objective, and complete investigation of all circumstances of the case and to verify the circumstances pointed out in the testimonies. The pre-trial investigation continues.
