Karthez: Favorable Conditions Created for Enemy in Goris-Meghri Segment, Iranologist
As a result of the so-called oral agreements, and now suspected written disgraceful "understandings" with the dictator of Baku, our positions in the Sanasar (Kubatly) and Kovsakan (Zangelan) regions have been surrendered. This has created highly favorable conditions for the enemy to establish actual control over all routes of land communication between Armenia and Iran in the Goris-Meghri segment, should they desire to do so.
The routes ensuring this communication from Goris to Kapan comprise two main roads, one of which is the M2 (Yerevan-Erasukh-Goris-Meghri-Iran border) interstate highway, which is under threat near Vorotan, Shurnukh, and around Kapan. The H46 (Tatev-Aghvani-Kapan) road, which is a primarily secure republican road, faces threats in the extreme south, again around Kapan, where it connects with M2.
There are also two roads leading from Kapan to Meghri, of which the continuation of M2 (Kapan-Kajaran-Meghri-Iran border) is secure, while the M17 (Kapan-Tzav) interstate road in the Khachateni area is under threat. This road was built as an alternative to the M2 interstate road section from Kapan to Kajaran-Meghri, which is difficult to pass in winter.
In other words, the road issues arising in the regions of Vorotan, Shurnukh, Kapan, and Khachateni not only pertain to the security of internal communication in Armenia but are also vital for our free exit southwards. The Iranologist marked the threatened segments on the map.
