Abkhazia Seeks Participation in Opening Railway Communication Between Russia and Armenia
The Parliament of Abkhazia has approached the State Duma of Russia, expressing its readiness to participate on an equal basis in the project for opening railway communication between Russia and Armenia through Abkhazia. This was announced by Astamur Loguan, the head of the Commission for International, Inter-Parliamentary, and Relations with Compatriots of the Abkhazian Parliament, as reported by Armenpress.
Loguan stated, “The initiative is from our committee. We have been following the developments in the region and the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, which has reached a resolution. We welcome the fact of unblocking transport communications.”
According to the parliament member, Abkhazia has always been ready to participate in major regional projects on equal terms. Since the end of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, the countries of the region have begun discussing the possibility of opening railway communication, and Abkhazia should not remain a bystander. Loguan added that on February 4, extended hearings were held in the Abkhazian Parliament, where possible options regarding this issue were discussed.
