Who Among the My Step Faction Supported Early Elections: 'Hraparak'

As is known, over the weekend, the ruling 'My Step' gathered in Aghveran, and there were prior information leaks indicating that the faction would discuss the issue of early parliamentary elections. On Sunday evening, a statement was issued on behalf of 'My Step' stating that due to the 'lack of public demand,' early elections would not be held.

According to sources, in reality, the members of My Step neither discussed nor made any decisions; that decision was made by Nikol Pashinyan, who informed the MPs of this during their meeting on Sunday. However, he allowed supporters of early elections to speak and justify why early elections should be held.

Only 4-5 individuals expressed support for early elections, with the surprising 'forerunner' being Alen Simonyan, who has been one of Pashinyan's most ardent public defenders even after the war. He stated that elections should be held to relieve the atmosphere.

Support for the elections also came from Ararat Mirzoyan's 'wing' in the form of Vladimir Vardanyan and Hovhannes Hovhannisyan. However, their stance was perceived within the team as being tied to Ararat Mirzoyan's ambitions for the premiership. The team, especially the section that has no chance of being in the next parliament, wholeheartedly supported Pashinyan's decision. 'They were trying to show that there is dissatisfaction and that changes are necessary,' our source said.

Another argument they raised was that if the parliament is dissolved, the opposition might boycott the elections, and the results could lack legitimacy. The majority of 'My Step' agreed with the decision, with only 5-10 percent opposing it.

This information was reported by the 'Hraparak' newspaper.
