What Will Be the Foundation of Russia's Defense System?
In Russia, the core of non-nuclear deterrent forces will consist of hypersonic systems based on various platforms. This was reported to Izvestia by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“The potential of non-nuclear deterrent forces is being strengthened, primarily high-precision weapons. The foundation of these will be hypersonic systems based on various platforms,” said Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during the opening of a meeting for the command staff on operational mobilization.
The minister also noted that the army and navy regularly perform complex tasks that require the command staff to have a “deep understanding of the situation,” as well as knowledge of their own forces, capabilities, and resources.
Shoigu highlighted the professional growth of Russian military personnel and recalled that numerous new methods and technologies of warfare, which had not been used before, were implemented during operations in Syria.
Russian hypersonic weapons were introduced in 2018 and include systems such as Avangard, Dagger, and Tsirkon missiles.
