Vardenis-Martakert Highway Only Serves Azerbaijan, Says Taguhi Tovmasyan

Today, in the National Assembly, MP Taguhi Tovmasyan addressed the fate of the Vardenis-Martakert highway, stating that after the signing of the November 9 declaration, the road should be unblocked and operational.

“This highway, built through pan-Armenian efforts, is currently serving Azerbaijan, which promised to unblock trade routes, accompanied by the Russian side, and nothing hinders us from reaching the reactivation of these roads, also with the escort of Russian peacekeepers,” she said.

Tovmasyan noted that several businesses had opened in the Gegharkunik region, particularly in Vardenis, based on the existence of this road. “Now, many businesses are effectively at risk and facing closure because if the highway does not function, hotel industries and food establishments will essentially shut down, as that area will become the end of the country,” she remarked.

The MP also mentioned that many residents from Vardenis, Martuni, and Chambrak have approached her, indicating that instead of crossing a distance of 70-80 kilometers to reach Artsakh for work, they are now forced to travel 400-500 kilometers. She emphasized her commitment to ensuring the implementation of the 9th point of the document signed on November 9, adding that Artsakh must also be unblocked.
