39-Year-Old Man Stabs His 36-Year-Old Wife in Yerevan, Then Himself: Investigative Committee

On February 2, 2021, at 3:30 PM, the police department of Nor Nork in Yerevan received a report from the "Heratsi University Hospital Complex" regarding a 36-year-old woman who had been transported to the hospital with a "stab wound to the chest and neck" diagnosed.

According to the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Armenian Investigative Committee, at 3:45 PM on the same day, a report was received from "Erebuni" Medical Center that a 39-year-old man had sought medical assistance with a "stab wound to the heart" from the same residence.

Following the incident, the Yerevan police department of Nor Nork initiated a criminal case under Article 112, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code, which has since been transferred to the investigative department of the Yerevan Investigative Committee for the Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts.

As a result of investigative and procedural actions, as well as operational-search measures, it was established that at approximately 2:30 PM on February 2, 2021, in the aforementioned residence, the 39-year-old man inflicted bodily harm on his 36-year-old wife with a knife, and then injured himself with the same weapon.

The 39-year-old man has been arrested and provided a confession. On February 6, 2021, a decision was made to charge him as a suspect, and charges were brought under Article 34-104, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code. The investigator filed a motion with the court to select detention as a measure of restraint, which was granted.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
