Photos: I was lying down, heard a rumble, the child screamed, the lights went out. Walls cracked in Vahan after the tremor

A resident of the border village of Vahan has provided 24News with photographs showing the aftermath of an earthquake that struck a few hours ago, along with some details about the event. The interviewee recounts that all family members were at home during the earthquake.

It was around 17:30 when they suddenly heard a rumble.

"I was lying down, the family members were in the hallway, and suddenly I heard a rumble; the child started screaming, and the lights went out. I turned on the flashlight on my phone. We all rushed outside somehow. We saw neighbors rushing out, screaming. After a few seconds, the tremors stopped. I thought I would go back in to get some clothes so we wouldn’t get cold, we were freezing, but just then we heard another rumble near the door and, scared, I stepped back and stopped. We didn’t go inside anymore, after a while we heard another faint rumble and that was it," says a resident of Vahan.

Hasmik also shares that aftershocks kept them outside for nearly two hours, entering only around 21:30 when electricity was restored in the village. "We were outside until 9 PM. Around half past 9 the lights came back on. Then we went inside and saw that almost all the walls of the house had cracked," Hasmik recounts.

The resident of Vahan also provided several photos from the houses of other villagers. She explains that while their wall cracked, soil fell from the ceiling of a neighbor’s house, and pictures and icons fell from another neighbor's wall.

It is worth mentioning that an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale was registered 5 kilometers northeast of the village of Shorja in Armenia at 19:36. The intensity of the underground shock in the epicenter zone was rated at 6-7 points. The earthquake was felt in the Gegharkunik region with an intensity of 5-6 points, in several localities of the Kotayk, Tavush, Lori, and Ararat regions with intensities of 4-6 points, and in Yerevan with intensities of 3-4 points.
