Commission Currently Assessing Earthquake Damage in Shoghakat Community
In the Shoghakat (Shorja) community of Gegharkunik Province, walls of old buildings have collapsed. This was reported to NEWS.am by the community head Suliko Shushanyan.
“This morning, tremors were also felt, but they were weak and not as strong as yesterday’s. In the community, walls of old buildings, including barns and houses, have collapsed, and all houses have sustained damage,” he stated.
The community leader noted that currently, employees from the Ministry of Emergency Situations are working in the area, and a joint commission from the provincial governor's office and the community administration is assessing the damage.
Earlier, it was reported that a prolonged tremor with a magnitude of 2-3 was recorded in the Shoghakat community today. It is worth mentioning that on this day, February 5, an earthquake was registered in Armenia, with its epicenter in Gegharkunik, measuring 6-7 on the Richter scale.
