Non-food Prices in the Republic Increased by 5.5%

The prices of non-food products have increased by 5.5% in January 2021 compared to January 2020, according to data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia.

During this period, there has been a 0.2% increase in the prices of renovation and maintenance materials, 0.3% for household and gardening tools, 0.5% for carpets and floor coverings, 0.6% for glassware, tableware, and various types of furniture, and 0.7% for clothing, fuel, and lubricants. Additionally, prices for furniture and furnishings rose by 0.9%, while small household appliances and cleaning agents saw a 2.6% increase. Large household appliances and jewelry had a price increase of 2.9%, and pharmaceutical products increased by 4.6%.

According to the presented statistics, prices for office supplies remained unchanged during the specified period.

In January 2021, compared to December 2020, the prices of gasoline and diesel fuel increased by 3.1% and 3.8% respectively, while a decrease of 9.5% and 20.2% was recorded compared to January 2020.

In the services sector, there was a 1.4% increase in tariffs during the observed period. The postal services sector experienced relatively high inflation, with a 13.1% increase attributable to a 16.3% rise in package delivery service tariffs.

The published statistics indicate that in January 2021, compared to December 2020, there was an increase of 2.2% in consumer prices and a 0.4% increase in the exchange rate of the Armenian dram against the US dollar (the dollar appreciated). In the same period of the previous year, consumer prices and the exchange rate of the dram against the dollar saw increases of 1.4% and 0.2%, respectively.

In January 2021, the average calculated exchange rate of the dram against the US dollar was 521.2 drams, which is 8.8% higher than the corresponding figure of 479.2 drams in January 2020.
