Court Replaces Navalny's Conditional Sentence in ‘Iv Rocher’ Case with Real Term

The Simonovsky Court of Moscow has annulled Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny's conditional sentence in the 'Iv Rocher' case and replaced it with a 3.5-year real prison sentence in a general regime penal colony. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

The court found that there is sufficient evidence for the conviction. Previously, Navalny had successfully avoided serving his conditional sentence three times. The refusals were made by the Lublyanka District Court in 2015 and 2016, and the Simonovsky Court of Moscow also prolonged his probation in 2017 without raising the issue of sending him to prison.

The decision to alter the suspended sentence has not yet taken effect; both parties have ten days to appeal.
