Artzruni Hovhannisyan Discusses His Belief in Victory
“Because I believed we would win.” This statement was made by Artzruni Hovhannisyan during a conversation with journalists, responding to the question of why he had claimed victory was assured, despite the eventual outcome.
Hovhannisyan mentioned that he believed in victory until the very last day: “Up until the day Shushi fell,” he stated.
He expressed his feelings of being a defeated and troubled officer, highlighting the heavy emotional toll the situation has taken on him: “Do not expect me to have a more tragic perception than I do. It is very heavy for me. Throughout the war, I believed. The entire nation is confident that the regular army, the middle officers, and the regular troops fought magnificently. I represented that troops, so how could I not acknowledge their magnificent struggle, and after their incredible fight, what right did I have not to believe we would win? I relied on them first and foremost,” he added.
