Armenia and Azerbaijan Should Be Very Grateful to the President of Russia, Medvedev
The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, described President Vladimir Putin's efforts to resolve the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh in the autumn of 2020 as a "professionalism" (филигранный). This was reported by Tass.
In an interview with local media, he recalled the escalation of conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2016, adding, "At that time, a map was prepared, but unfortunately, the countries did not take advantage of it." According to him, "all of this led to a new clash, prolonged and with a large number of casualties."
"And it is very good that thanks to the work of the President of Russia, which was filigree, I once observed this work, Vladimir Vladimirovich spent an hour in discussions between all parties to this conflict. If it were not for his work, let’s admit it, this conflict could have continued to this day," said Medvedev, adding that "this is a huge effort for which both Azerbaijan and Armenia should be very grateful to the President of Russia."
In November 2020, after the cessation of the "hot phase" of the conflict in the region, "the situation has generally calmed down, and this is the most important thing. People are not dying and there are opportunities for development," said Medvedev.
