135 Waste Sorting Points to be Installed Across Yerevan by End of February
By the end of February, 135 waste sorting points are set to be installed in all administrative districts of Yerevan, with each point housing three containers. This was announced on February 1 during a meeting with reporters by Haik Hovhannisyan, head of the waste sorting division of the Environmental Greenery and Protection Agency, affiliated with the Yerevan Municipality.
He clarified that in the initial phase, sorting will focus on paper (yellow containers), glass (gray containers), and plastic (blue containers), while all other waste will be collected in green containers. Additionally, red containers for textile waste are planned for future installation.
According to Hovhannisyan, based on the results of these efforts, there could be an increase in the number of points or the adoption of other measures to enhance operational efficiency this year. “To understand logistics and organize work correctly, a pilot program was implemented in 1-2 administrative districts. Currently, there are 60 waste sorting points installed throughout Yerevan. Such points are still absent in Shengavit, Malatia-Sebastia, Nubarashen, and Erebuni,” he emphasized.
The official added that in case of violations of sorting regulations, deterrent mechanisms will be enforced, including fines of up to 50,000 AMD.
