Makunts's Process of Appointing Ambassador to the USA Not as Smooth as It Seems
The process of appointing Lilit Makunts, the head of the 'My Step' faction in the National Assembly, as the Ambassador of Armenia to the United States is not as straightforward as it may initially appear.
The issue is that the agrement has not yet been granted. But what exactly is an agrement, and how does the process of appointing an ambassador in any given country occur? 'Hayots Ashkhatank' newspaper has learned that the process of obtaining an agrement is not particularly easy and is often subject to rejection.
Initially, the country appointing the ambassador sends a request to the foreign affairs ministry of the receiving country, including the biography of the proposed ambassador, indicating its intention to appoint that person. The receiving country then reviews the biography of the candidate, and if the candidate is acceptable, it sends a corresponding note confirming that they agree for that individual to be appointed as ambassador in their country. Usually, there is no public announcement regarding the sending of the agrement request, or a potential refusal.
Furthermore, it's interesting to note that there is no specified deadline for receiving an agrement; for one country, it could take 40-45 days, while for another, it might take 2 months or more. However, 100 days is considered the maximum timeframe. This means that Lilit Makunts will not be appointed ambassador in the coming days, as the process is, in fact, lengthy. The American side still needs to review her biography to determine whether her career is acceptable, and only then will they decide whether to consent to receive her as an ambassador or not.
