Around 200 Restaurants in Georgia Announce 24-Hour Strike

“Through this 24-hour strike, we want to show the government how it will affect the country if restaurants are unable to operate,” stated Shota Burjanadze, head of the Restaurant Association of Georgia, in relation to today’s planned action, as reported by Gruziya Online.

He explained that the purpose of the demonstration is to highlight that the closure of this sector would be akin to “death” and would create challenges not just for the government, but for the population as well.

“We have the simplest demand from the government. We are not asking for help or subsidies. We want to continue to provide jobs for the 250,000 people working in our sector and relieve the burden from the state, which committed to pay 200 lari to assist these individuals,” Burjanadze added.

Today, representatives from up to 200 restaurants are set to gather in front of the Georgian government. It is also noted that around 200 restaurants in Tbilisi will suspend delivery services for 24 hours.
