VIDEO: Volcano Erupts on Java Island
The Merapi volcano located on Indonesia's Java Island has started to erupt, spewing molten rocks and ash. This was reported by the Center for Geological Disaster Studies, as stated by dpa on Wednesday, January 27.
The eruption lasted for four hours. Rescue services have assessed the danger level as two, indicating that people should not be within a five-kilometer zone surrounding the crater. At the same time, there have been no reports of casualties or injuries.
Meanwhile, the local government has announced its readiness to evacuate residents in the event of a stronger volcanic eruption.
