VIDEO: Zarif Congratulates Lavrov and Putin for Ending 'Conflict in Karabakh'
During his regional visit, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met today with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. In his welcoming remarks, Lavrov stated that Moscow and Tehran celebrate their mutual interest in deepening dialogue on a number of regional issues, including the situation surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Given our countries' roles in the neighboring region, we are interested in deepening dialogue on issues like security in the Persian Gulf, resolution problems in Afghanistan, and of course, we can discuss the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh following the agreements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan," said the Russian Foreign Minister.
Zarif congratulated Lavrov and Russian President Putin for 'ending the conflict in Karabakh'. "Our common concern was that this conflict was happening in our neighborhood and people were being killed, and I believe there is an opportunity to transform this conflict into an opportunity. Thus, one of the purposes of my regional visit is to develop those opportunities arising from the agreements of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia," stated Zarif.
It is worth noting that Zarif arrived in Moscow from Baku. He will also be visiting Armenia, Georgia, and Turkey. Zarif proposes creating a six-party cooperation, which experts consider unlikely.
