Authorities Have Come Up with a New Plan: Will the National Assembly Self-Disband?
The ruling party in Armenia is currently seeking solutions for the conduct of extraordinary parliamentary elections, as reported by Armlur.am. The situation is that, for these elections to take place, the parliament must first be "dissolved," and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan must submit his resignation. Until now, the authorities had been negotiating that if the Prime Minister resigns, none of the members of the parliamentary faction should nominate a candidate, which would lead to the dissolution of the parliament and subsequently to the extraordinary elections.
However, the leader of the Bright Armenia faction in the National Assembly, Edmon Marukyan, has stated both in private meetings and publicly that he will definitely present himself as a candidate after the Prime Minister's resignation. This is why the local authorities are searching for ways to dissolve the parliament and conduct elections.
According to our sources, the legal department of the My Step faction in parliament is suggesting to do this through constitutional amendments, which would allow them to easily self-dissolve the parliament and achieve the desired outcome. It's worth noting that recently, during an interview with a media outlet, Deputy Speaker Alen Simonyan spoke about this, responding to our question about whether it is realistic to hold extraordinary parliamentary elections now.
