Hundreds of People Take to the Streets in the Netherlands Due to Curfew

In the capital of the Netherlands and Eindhoven, police have used force to disperse demonstrators. Law enforcement officers employed water cannons and batons, as well as tear gas, according to НТВ.

Media reports indicate that disturbances began in ten locations across the country shortly after the curfew took effect at 9:00 PM. Special police units have been deployed. In Helmond, gathered youths threw fireworks and stones at the police. In Venlo, protesters smashed shop windows. In several cities, participants in the demonstrations set various items on fire. More than 240 people have been arrested nationwide.

Earlier, Dutch authorities extended the lockdown that had been in place since mid-December until February 9. All non-essential shops, restaurants, cafes, museums, theaters, entertainment venues, gyms, and beauty salons are closed in the country.
