Video: Those Who Extorted Money from a Man Who Didn't End a Romantic Relationship Have Been Arrested

Based on operational information received at the Tavush Regional Police Department, a man invited to the main department reported that three men had threatened him after he promised them he would end a romantic relationship with a woman. Following the breach of this promise, the men assaulted him and, threatening to cut off his fingers with a hatchet and harm his family members, demanded 1.5 million dram.

To avoid further violence and evade the mentioned threats, the man reported making a payment of 100,000 dram via a payment terminal on December 31 of last year to one of the perpetrators, promising that he would pay an additional 500,000 dram in cash on January 20.

As a result of collaborative operational-intelligence measures taken by the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Unit, Tavush Regional Police Department, and the Ijevan Division, the man was apprehended immediately after receiving 500,000 dram, which was part of the 1.5 million dram demanded in extortion, on January 21 in the Norashen neighborhood of Yerevan.

During the investigation at the scene, the extorted amount of 500,000 dram was found, and a search of the detained individual revealed a firearm and ammunition. Additionally, other participants in the extortion were also identified and detained by the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Unit. Those apprehended have been charged and arrested within the scope of the initiated criminal case at the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Unit.

The criminal case has been sent from the police to the Investigative Committee.
