Last Night's Cold Was Last Seen Three Years Ago

The Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center reports that the cold night experienced last night has not been felt for the last three years. The primary meteorological reason for the formation of freezing temperatures is the influx of Arctic cold air currents from the Scandinavian region, followed by the development of a high-pressure system in the territory of Armenia.

During the night of January 21-22, the lowest temperatures recorded in the Republic were:

  • Ashotsk: -29.1°C
  • Aparan Lake: -25.2°C
  • Chambarak: -23.6°C
  • Sisian: -23.3°C
  • Gavar: -23.0°C
  • Hrazdan: -22.5°C
  • Gyumri: -21.4°C
  • Tsaghkadzor and Tashir: -21.0°C
  • Amasia and Jermuk: -20.4°C

In the Ararat plain, the air temperature dropped to between -14°C and -16°C, while in some hollow areas, according to satellite data, temperatures reached -20°C.
