First African American to Lead the Pentagon
The U.S. Senate has confirmed Lloyd Austin’s nomination as the head of the Pentagon. According to RIA Novosti, 93 senators voted in favor of his nomination, while two voted against it. However, candidates for this position who have retired more than seven years ago require special congressional approval.
The retired general is 67 years old and retired in 2016. From 2013 to 2016, he led the U.S. Central Command.
If confirmed, he will become the first African American to lead the Pentagon.
