Unpredictable Consequences May Arise: The Issue of Armenian POWs Has Been Raised
European Parliament member and head of the Armenia-EU Friendship Group, Lukas Furla, spoke with the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper about ongoing concerns regarding the future of Artsakh, noting that instability could lead to unpredictable consequences.
Moreover, the head of the Armenia-EU Friendship Group plans to visit the region at the earliest opportunity to see firsthand what is happening there. "I plan to visit the area at the first opportunity, as current pandemic conditions do not allow for it. I consider it my duty to find out what is happening there," he emphasized.
Another important issue for the European Parliament member is the return of Armenian prisoners of war, which has not been fully implemented since the trilateral statement of November 9. There are Armenian prisoners of war on the Azerbaijani side, whom Azerbaijan tries to present as criminals since they were captured after the trilateral statement.
Lukas Furla has also raised this issue in the European Commission. "I am very concerned about this issue; that is why I have brought up the question of Armenian prisoners of war to the European Commission, about guaranteeing their rights and the obligation to return them. Such initiatives could put pressure on the Azerbaijani government," he added in the interview with the newspaper.
