Approximately 200 peacekeepers participated in the firing exercises. The Russian peacekeepers were deployed to Artsakh under the trilateral agreement signed by Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020. According to the document, the peacekeepers are stationed in Artsakh for a term of five years, which may be automatically extended for another five years unless one of the parties expresses dissent.
The basis of the peacekeeping contingent is the 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade (Peacekeeping) of the Central Military District of the Russian Armed Forces. The group is commanded by Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov, who previously served as Deputy Commander of the Southern Military District.
