European Parliament Passes Anti-Russian Resolution on Navalny

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution regarding the arrest of opposition figure Alexei Navalny in Russia, demanding that the EU "immediately impede the completion of the Nord Stream 2 project, as well as tighten restrictions imposed against Moscow." According to RIA Novosti, 581 members voted in favor of the document, while 50 opposed it, and 44 abstained.

It is important to note that resolutions adopted by the European Parliament on international issues are declarative in nature and not binding. However, other EU institutions must take the European Parliament's opinion into account.

Recall that Navalny was arrested upon his return to Moscow at Sheremetyevo Airport. He had returned to his homeland from Berlin, where he had been receiving treatment since late August. He was arrested for violating the terms of his probation.
