The Opposition Unconcerned by Ararat Mirzoyan's Alleged Agent Status

The scandal surrounding Ararat Mirzoyan, in relation to allegations of being an agent for Turkish intelligence services, has shocked the public, but it appears to be of no concern to the parliamentary opposition. There have been no speeches, no inquiries, and no condemning statements from them during this time. It seems the opposition in the National Assembly is entirely indifferent to the fact that they work in an institution led by someone who may be an agent of a hostile state or the special services of Armenia.

We attempted to clarify whether either the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) or the Luys (Light) Party had engaged in this issue privately. We asked BHK Vice President Vahe Enfiajyan whether he feels any discomfort sharing the podium with Mirzoyan, why they aren’t investigating the matter. Enfiajyan responded that he was busy and had someone waiting for him. In reality, we learned that the faction was told, 'This isn’t our topic, we’re not getting into it.'

Members of the Luys Party are also reluctant to engage with the 'topic.' Ani Samsonyan, when asked about it, attempted to downplay the seriousness: 'Anyone can be accused like that.' When asked if she is sure the allegations against Mirzoyan are unfounded, she said, 'Let the National Security Service deal with it.' As a parliamentarian, what are you doing to ensure the NSS looks into it? 'There are appropriate bodies to address such inquiries. I’m a member of parliament; I’m not engaged in lustration or verifying publicly released information.'

Thus, you’re not worried that the head of the National Assembly might be an agent of Turkey? 'If each of us throws around such information publicly, is this a government or a discussion room… The NSS is the only body that should address this issue.' This was reported by the newspaper 'Hraparak.'
