Syrian Mercenaries Have Not Surrendered and Are Located in Armenia
During the war in Artsakh, Syrian mercenaries who were arrested and later detained are currently in Armenia; they have not surrendered, stated Arevik Khachatryan, the head of the public relations department of the Prosecutor General's Office, to Tert.am.
It is noteworthy that two Syrian mercenaries are detained in Armenia: Youssef Alabet Al Haji and Muhhrab Muhammad Al Shakhri. They participated in the military operations unleashed by Azerbaijan and Turkey on September 27 and were arrested by the Artsakh defense forces.
Earlier, Rima Yeghanyan, head of the information and public relations department of the Investigative Committee, stated that they are not prisoners of war and are not subject to surrender; they have the status of defendants and are detained.
Of Arab ethnicity, citizens of the Syrian Arab Republic, Youssef Alabet Al Haji and Muhhrab Muhammad Al Shakhri are charged under Article 389 of the RA Criminal Code (international terrorism), Part 1 of Article 34-390, Clause 1, and Part 3, Clause 1 (serious violations of international humanitarian law during armed conflict), as well as Part 3 of Article 395 (mercenarism).
