Paphos Municipality Renames Talat Pasha Street to Justice Street at Armenian Community's Request

The Cyprus Armenian National Committee expressed gratitude to the Mayor and Council of Paphos, who quickly responded to the request from the local Armenian community and changed the name of Talat Pasha Street to Tikeosinis (Justice).

This announcement was made by the Cyprus Armenian National Committee. “For the first time, our Committee discussed the issue of changing the street name during its meeting on July 14, 2020, where it was deemed unacceptable to honor the name of the orchestrator of the Armenian Genocide. Furthermore, the Parliament of Cyprus had passed legislation criminalizing the denial of the Genocide in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. This decision legally addressed the issue of glorifying the Turkish perpetrator,” the statement read. “Today, we are pleased to announce that the wish of all of us has come true. Our heartfelt thanks go to Paphos Mayor Mr. Phetos Phetonos, who established justice without any hesitation or doubt.”
