Martakert Residents Who Blocked Azerbaijani Convoy Road Have Ended Their Action: New Details
The residents of Drmbon village in the Martakert region of Artsakh blocked the road used by an Azerbaijani convoy headed to Karvachar on January 18, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers. This was reported by Drmbon village mayor Ashot Hakobyan in a conversation with an Armenpress correspondent.
“The purpose of blocking the road was to demand access to the road leading to Vardenis for us as well. The Azerbaijanis are traveling with trucks and transporting cargo to Karvachar. Meanwhile, the same rather short road to Vardenis is inaccessible to us. The aim of our peaceful action was to draw the attention of the Russian peacekeepers to this issue, so that they can ensure safe conditions for traveling to Vardenis via this road,” said Hakobyan, adding that at this moment, they have ceased their action of blocking the road because the representative of the peacekeeping forces accompanying the Azerbaijani convoy promised to forward their petition to the commander of the Russian peacekeeping mission, Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov.
“We hope that the issue will be resolved positively and there will be no need to block the road again,” Hakobyan added.
On January 18, it became known from a video posted by an Armenian user on Facebook that the residents of Drmbon had blocked the road leading to Karvachar through their village. In the video, one of the participants in the peaceful protest emphasizes that instead of the 90-kilometer route to Vardenis, they are forced to travel 500 kilometers to visit their relatives. Therefore, they ask for the safe and unobstructed movement of the civilian population to Vardenis.
In the same video, a Russian peacekeeper who approached the villagers noted that their mission's goal is to maintain the ceasefire regime and ensure the functionality of infrastructure. “That issue is being decided at a high level. I will do everything I can to resolve this problem,” said the Russian military officer.
