Let This Be a Lesson for Us, So That the Next Time Creating an Investigative Commission Is Not Pointless - Tunyanz

We have failed the activities of the investigative commission, and I see my share of guilt in that, said My Step faction MP Babken Tunyanz from the podium of the National Assembly during a discussion on the report of the commission that studied the legality and justification of financial and other reports presented to the executive bodies in the framework of investment programs in the metallic mining industry.

“We must speak honestly. As they say, Plato is my friend, but the truth is more precious. Of course, the initiative of the investigative commission was not by us; it was created by the rule of law. I personally expressed my desire to participate so that I could at least contribute to clarifying the objective reality, but in fact, I personally did not work enough,” Tunyanz stated.

He noted that five mining sites were selected for research and distributed among the members of the commission. “Unfortunately, we did not receive sufficient information regarding those five sites, and there are companies whose reports you can’t even find. If any journalist were to investigate and allocate resources to this, they would uncover more than we did,” he added.

According to Tunyanz, the investigative commission was essentially created to cast doubt on the investment indicators of one mining company. “Throughout this time, we mainly listened to environmental activists who spoke about one company that does not operate. For instance, you are talking about ‘Lydian Armenia.’ That company couldn’t make a profit because it hasn’t even operated,” he said.

The MP concluded that this should serve as a lesson for them, so that next time the creation of an investigative commission is not purposeless. “Next time, we should adequately evaluate our capabilities and see if we can manage something; if we cannot, it is better not to create false expectations from the start. This not only wastes resources but also seriously harms the reputation of the National Assembly,” Babken Tunyanz finished his remarks.
