Prepare Mr. Harutyunyan, I Will Be Living in Your House with My Family, You Gave My House to the Enemy: Shushi Resident Narine Avanesyan

Shushi's former resident Narine Avanesyan stated on Facebook: "I settled permanently in the city of Shushi in Artsakh in 2010. After my sons were discharged from the army, I took out a loan to renovate and furnish my home so that I could live there with my family, my husband, and our four children (two of whom are adults, and two are minors; my youngest is 5 years old)."

"Throughout all these years in Artsakh, I have never received any financial assistance or support; my husband, my sons, and I built our home through our own hard work. Now, I find myself and my family in a refugee status in Yerevan. President of Artsakh, Mr. Arayik Harutyunyan, if you were aware that there was going to be a war and you were selling or removing your property from Artsakh, why didn’t you inform us so that we would not renovate and furnish our home, ultimately giving the renovated house to the enemy? I was in Shushi until November 1, going through the basements every day to help the elderly, organizing activities and games for the children in the basements to help them cope with the situation. Every day I posted a photo online to encourage our Shushi residents not to lose hope, that everything would be okay. However, I witnessed kamikaze drones entering Shushi; there was no order to shoot – how do you explain that?"

"By November 1, I was in Shushi; why didn’t you inform us that you had given Shushi to the enemy? At least I could have retrieved the documents for my house, or at least taken my child’s belongings, which he remembers every moment. I have been unable to solve our housing issues in Yerevan for three months, and I cannot afford to pay $300 for a week. I no longer want my children to live under these conditions, so soon, I, along with my family, will be returning to the Republic of Artsakh, to Stepanakert. Prepare Mr. Harutyunyan, because I will be living in your house with my family; you have given my house to the enemy – the very house that my little child was never able to enjoy in his furnished room, which he dreams of! I was unable to live in my renovated house for a week. I will come and live in your house until you resolve my housing issues, because this cannot continue. I have not gained respect and dignity for years, and today I find myself on the streets of Yerevan, hoping to see who can give me some clothes or a blanket so my family can eat. I created a home so that my children could live safely."
